Employment Opportunity: Heavy Equipment Technician/Operator Permanent, Full-Time Job Summary:
The Town of Gambo is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Heavy Equipment Technician/Operator. This position requires a versatile individual who can perform both mechanical repairs and operate heavy equipment efficiently and safely. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining and operating various vehicles and equipment essential for the town's infrastructure and public services.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular maintenance and repairs on town-owned vehicles, including trucks, snowplows, and other heavy equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical issues, troubleshoot problems, and perform necessary repairs to ensure equipment reliability and safety.
-Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, excavators for various town projects and maintenance tasks.
-Assist in snow removal operations during winter months, including plowing and sanding roads, parking lots, and sidewalks.
-Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment usage.
-Always follow safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
-Collaborate with other town staff as needed to support town operations and projects.
-Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management team.
Qualifications:
-High school or equivalent education. Certification or training in heavy equipment operation and/or diesel mechanics.
-Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with a background in heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
-Education, training, and/or work experience in a municipal environment is an asset, with knowledge of all aspects of road work, water and sewer maintenance, snow clearing operations and equipment operations including all related legislation.
-Strong Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
-Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor as required.
-Valid Class 3 license with Class 8 endorsement and 5 years experience in operating heavy equipment such as loaders, graders, and excavators.
-Drivers Abstract and Code of Conduct required.
-Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
-Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment.
-Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to equipment operation and maintenance based on the requirements of Occupational Health and safety Legislation.
Renumeration for this position is in accordance with the Union Contract. The successful applicant will be required to work weekends on a rotational basis. In addition, the successful applicant will be required to successfully complete ongoing safety training and educational programs as required. This position is open to male and female applicants.
